Wine has always been an integral part of Nikki’s life and growing up in a family of backyard winemakers has left her with a deep-seated passion for wine. Some of her earliest memories involve stomping on grapes in a bucket, staring at bubbles in fermentation vessels and crawling under the house to get a bottle of handmade wine for her parents.
Despite her connection with the wine industry Nikki went on to study Mandarin Chinese and Commerce after school, which sent her off to China and led her to discover her love of travel. After living ten years as a musician exploring different types and styles of music across the globe, Nikki decided to return home to her family in Australia and reignite her passion for winemaking.

Nikki began working at De Bortoli Wines as their export manager for Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa and was inaugurated into a culture of incredible wines, delicious food and beautiful people. She soon realised her real love was for winemaking and so embarked upon a winemaking degree at Charles Stuart. In between university and jet setting around the globe, she was digging out tanks, filling barrels and helping out in the lab at De Bortoli’s winery in the Yarra Valley.
In 2014 Nikki decided that she wanted to pursue her dream of creating her own wine and started to make wines under the Octtava label, with the vision of bringing her two passions of music and wine together.
Nikki is also on the Board of Victoria and serves the industry in trade and exports to China. She is also a graduate of the Wine Industry’s Future Leaders Program and has served on various committees including the Victorian Government Wine Ministerial Advisory Committee.
